“I made these solid copper cicadas at the suggestion of a client. While in the woods near my studio, surrounded by the sounds of cicadas, I decided that I just had to make a couple since it may be another 17 years before I see them again.”
- Ben Caldwell
Ben applies a patina using liver of sulfur to the body of the spread-winged cicada taking flight and hand chases the wings. He uses solid brass rivets to create the eyes.
The 3.5“ copper wire legs offer you the option to wrap the cicada around a gate or a branch as they stand strong in all kinds of weather. If you prefer to have your cicada join you indoors, you can adjust their legs so your cicada can sit neatly on a table or rest on a book.
A fun offering for anyone who loves to garden and values hand made over mass produced.
Made by Tennessee artist Ben Caldwell, one at a time.
